Creating Compassionate Community
“The beginner’s mind is the mind of compassion. When our mind is compassionate, it is boundless.”
WELCOME
Heart of Compassion Zen is a Soto Zen sangha of spiritual friends dedicated to compassionate care for the earth, deepening peace and justice, and engaging in community service.
Our practice includes sitting zazen together, reading contemporary as well as ancient texts with our teachers, chanting, meditative outdoor walks, sharing our dharma learnings in small groups, and occasional ceremonies.
Each year in late June, we also gather and celebrate together for a Wonder Walk and Retreat picnic at Point Reyes National Seashore.
We invite you to join our intimate practice gatherings, in-person or online.

“Someone once asked Tang dynasty Zen Master Baijang why giving is the gateway to the Bodhisattva’s path. Baijang answered that it is because to practice giving is to practice letting go.”
